...RED FLAG WARNINGS FOR FAR NORTHWEST AND PARTS OF SOUTH CENTRAL
NORTH DAKOTA TODAY...
.There are two separate areas of critical fire weather conditions
expected late this morning through this evening. One includes the
James River Valley and adjacent areas to the west, and the other
is in far northwest North Dakota. Both of these areas are
expected to see similar conditions, with northwest winds around
25 to 30 mph gusting to 40 mph and relative humidity as low as
20 percent. There are slight timing differences between the two
areas, with the James River Valley segment being a late morning
to early evening threat, and the far northwest segment being an
early afternoon to late evening threat. In addition, scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms could develop late this
afternoon and evening and produce erratic and stronger wind
gusts.
* WINDS...Northwest around 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent.
* AFFECTED AREA...Parts of south central North Dakota, including
the James River Valley.
* IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become
difficult to control or suppress.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
