Almost the entire Birch Glacier collapsed, causing a massive rockfall. A huge deposit of ice and rock buried most of the village of Blatten.
The danger in the disaster area remains high. Instabilities have been observed on the Kleine Nesthorn. The risk of debris flows remains. Access to the scree cone is prohibited to unauthorized persons. Roads and trails remain inaccessible.

Further landslides or rockfalls are possible in the area concerned.
