Measures due to persistent drought

The persistent heat and lack of rain are exacerbating the drought. Therefore, the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Basel-Stadt have implemented various measures. These include regulations on fire safety, water extraction from bodies of water, and the use of flowing water.
There is a significant risk of forest fires and of streams drying up due to very dry conditions.

It is forbidden to light fires in the forest and at forest edges (minimum distance 50 meters). The only exception is permanently installed fire pits.
Fires must be supervised at all times, and any sparks must be extinguished immediately. The embers in the fire pit must be completely extinguished before leaving.
It is forbidden to throw away burning cigarettes and other smoking materials or matches.

Swimming, entering and fishing are prohibited in defined sections of the Birs, Ergolz and Wiese rivers.
Blue-green algae blooms may occur. Avoid discolored or cloudy water altogether. Toxins can be especially dangerous for children and dogs. Already sighted: Augst (Ergolz estuary).
