The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a
* Special Marine Warning for...
Lake Salvador and Lake Cataouatche...
* Until 730 PM CDT.
* At 626 PM CDT, a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of
producing waterspouts was located 13 nm south of Kenner, moving
east at 20 knots.
HAZARD...Waterspouts, wind gusts 34 knots or greater, and large
hail.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage
vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves.
Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and
suddenly higher waves. Large hail could result in injury
and damage to boats...vessels and oil rigs.
* The cluster of severe thunderstorms will remain over mainly open
waters.
Recommendations
Boaters should avoid waterspouts and never try to navigate near them.
Move to safe harbor or shelter immediately until the threat passes.
These storms may produce large, destructive hail that can cause
significant damage boats and vessels. Do not venture out into these
storms! Seek safe harbor immediately!
