For the following areas...
Lake Pontchartrain...
At 820 AM CDT, a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing
waterspouts were located along a line extending from near Pass
Christian to 7 nm west of Lake Borgne, moving southeast at 35 knots.
HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts in excess of 50 knots.
SOURCE...Lakefront ASOS reported a wind gust to 55 knots.
IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage
vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves.
Boats could suffer significant structural damage in high
winds. Small craft could capsize in suddenly higher waves.
Locations impacted include...
Eden Isle, Kenner, and Orleans Marina.
Recommendations
Dangerous high winds, waterspouts and suddenly higher waves are
expected! Boaters should avoid waterspouts and never try to navigate
near them. Seek shelter or move to safe harbor immediately!
Report severe weather to the Coast Guard or the National Weather
Service.
