Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected.
Where: Highway 3 Kootenay Pass.
When: beginning in earnest Tuesday afternoon; lasting until late Wednesday night.
Remarks: Falling freezing levels will accompany an influx of moisture on Tuesday as a low pressure system crosses the province from northwest to southeast. Snow will begin as lighter flurries Tuesday morning and intensify Tuesday afternoon.
Other hazards: Strong winds at times will accompany this system and give limited visibility in blowing snow.
Travel will likely be challenging.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
Allow extra time for travel. If driving, turn on your lights, slow down and maintain a safe following distance. The site https://shiftintowinter.ca/ reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.
