CIVIL DEFENCE WARNING - FLOODING

Heavy rain in the upper reaches of the Whanganui River, combined with high tide, is forecast to bring possible flooding to Anzac Parade, Taupo Quay, and the Putiki suburb around 1pm.

PEOPLE SHOULD PREPARE TO EVACUATE from those areas. Civil Defence staff are commencing door knocking in these areas.

IF YOU FEEL UNSAFE, LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.

People in low-lying areas should:
*Follow instructions from emergency services and Civil Defence
*Prepare a bag with essential items
*Organise to stay with family or friends if they can
*Take your pets with you
*Check on neighbours and anyone who may need help
*Share this information if it won't delay you


DO NOT WALK OR DRIVE THROUGH FLOOD WATERS.
Flood water may be contaminated and contain debris.
