The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southeastern Roanoke County in west central Virginia...

* Until 145 AM EDT.

* At 1042 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated showers and thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2 inches of rain
have fallen since 10pm. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 4 inches
in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible
in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly, especially along Back Creek.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Roanoke Mountain, Clearbrook and Cave Spring.

This includes the following streams and drainages...
Murray Run, Roanoke River, North Fork Gills Creek, Gum Spring
Branch, Maggodee Creek, White Oak Creek and Back Creek.

deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
