Details
* WHAT...For the High Surf Warning, dangerously large breaking
waves of 12 to 15 feet. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, minor
coastal inundation up to 2 feet. For the High Surf Advisory,
large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet.
* WHERE...For the High Surf Warning, south, west, and north
facing reefs. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, southern, western,
and northern shorelines. For the High Surf Advisory, west and
north facing reefs of Chuuk.
* WHEN...For the High Surf Warning and the Coastal Flood
Advisory, until 5 PM ChST today. For the High Surf Advisory,
from 5 PM today to 5 AM ChST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated
road closures expected. Breaking waves can sweep people off
jetties and docks, and into dangerous seas. Life-threatening
swimming conditions and significant beach erosion can be
expected.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Super Typhoon Sinlaku is currently about
305 miles north-northwest of Chuuk. Significant west-southwest
and northwesterly swells will continue to bring dangerous surf
and minor coastal inundation to south, west, and north facing
exposures through this afternoon. Conditions will gradually
improve as STY Sinlaku slowly moves north-northwest, moving away
from Chuuk. However, hazardous surf conditions are expected to
persist along west and north facing reefs through early Tuesday
morning.
Recommendations
Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening
surf conditions. Stay off of jetties, piers, and other waterside
infrastructure.
